I came across this article on Time's portfolio of lessons to learn from young achievers. I rather like this one.

arrey yaar...her dad disowed her and split to live by himself.  he is conservative and does not approve of show biz.

*you made me google Rakhi's biography*

when parents of adult kids disown them, its actually the adult kids disowning their old parents.

she was still in school.  not quite and adult.  she became the family's provider at a very young age.  makes you wonder what the rest were doing sitting on their lazy asses..

ok the only reason i posted was bcs i was told by some other CHer that she was a bar dancer.

here is ur site - which says she did go to Mithi bhai college, perhaps dropped out bcs of her glamor addiction. not bcs she had to "support" family and all that melodramatic crap.

"Rakhi Sawant was born to a Marathi Hindu family in Mumbai. Her father is an ACP with the Mumbai Police. She has a brother, Rakesh and a sister, Jaya. Rakhi studied in Goklibai School, Vile Parle and later studied Arts at Mithibai College.

Rakhi Sawant was still in school when director Suneel Darshan offered her an Item Number opposite Govinda in Joru ka Gulam. Three years later, she auditioned four times before winning her breakthrough Item number Mohabbat hai Mirchi in Chura Liya Hai Tumne in 2003. During this period she fell out with her father who despised the film industry. ACP Sawant, a conservative man, felt that acting was not a respectable profession. Her mother, Usha Sawant, had no such qualms however, having herself received offers to act in Gujarati cinema. After her Rakhi Sawant's role, she gave up acting at her husband's insistence, but harbored hopes that her children would make it big in the industry.

I dunno how much of this story is true ...but the word of mouth is that Rakhi Sawant also happened to be a Bar dancer..& thats where she rose from... & got picked up from because of her dancing skills. I would say, thats a great achievement for a bar dancer to make it to that celebrity level in a country like India which used to even condemn women in any profession, not just cinema in earlier days (some of those fools who condemn working women or selectively oppose women entering select professions still exist)

that's why she has that aggresive attitude  ..daughter of a police officer  .
koi baat nahi ..she's till my favourite girl ..
now i know a bit more about her    :)   thanks

arrey yaar...her mom was some gujju actress.

dad stopped her acting.  mom encouraged kids to get into show biz.

dad disowed them for it.  rakhi supported family with her show biz earnings.  'glamor addiction' is one way of looking at it.   she had the guts to pursue what she wanted.

rehne de.  she is aight.

Right. India has come to this. People now turn to Rakhi Sawant - the icon for classlessness and shamelessness of the nth order for lessons. It is as absurd as Shabana being invited by Prince Charles for a visit...LOL in what capacity?? Arent there millionso of other genuinely concerned social activits and those who give to charitable causes than her? How about Ila Bhatt of SEWA? How about Sunita who exposed MNCs using harmful chemicals in beverages?.....This is hilarious.
