My child is traveling alone to UK

started by ksequiera 4 mnths ago
My daughter, aged 13 years, will be flying to the UK via British Airways. I’m concerned about her comfort and safety coz she’s flying alone for the first time. Being a frequent flyer myself, I will surely tell her about the airport procedures but would like to know there any other facts that she should be aware of.

Congratulations - your daughter is taking a new step and you as a parent are fabulous --helping her become independant. This isn't easy but kudos....Keep up the good work.

I've observed kids traveling alone. Usually, flight attendants are excellent care takers during long trips / international trips (as long as they are instructed or are aware )... Just make sure that your daughter is alert (money and passport / official documents need to be with her at all times...and I mean ALL  times!) ...she should be fine. Please make sure she travels light. The less stuff she carries - the easier it will be and the safer she will be.

She'z a teenager - I'm sure she enjoys to listen to ipods / cds/ music - please make sure she isnt in her own world ....when flight attendants make annoucements or airport makes annoucements...(this is where kids sometimes miss out or are MIA...missing in action).

Make sure she is hydrated and has cash in case she needs food or needs to make couple of calls. Do not load her with too much money - as it can her into trouble.

if she is on any prescriptions - please make sure she carries her paperwork with her.

Hopefully, this will help.

Cheers!

Well, Heathrow airport has a kids’ zone at their new BA terminal, which will surely interest your child. Skyflyers Solo customers will have their own departure and arrival zone, which has a lot of entertainment services.

Skyflyers Solo is for kids who travel alone? Anyway, there are Playstations and various other fun things to do at the new terminal.

Yeah, Skyflyers Solo are children who travel alone. Well, the new terminal is designed to make traveling much easier for kids and adults alike.. There are a lot of restaurants which cater to children.. so food is not a problem for these kids..

Thanks.. I’ve gathered a lot of info 'bout the terminal T5. I’m eager myself to explore the kid’s zone with its plasma screens and magnetic play wall!

Yeah, there are restaurants like Giraffe, Huxleys, Carluccios and Wagamamas which have a lot of fun foods..

You must! There is a lot for kids to do at the new kid’s zone at T5. And its new look is absolutely stunning. The lounges known as ‘Galleries’ feature Swarovski chandeliers and furnishings by Osborne & Little. There are also private cabanas that can be pre-booked by First class passengers.

Most of these luxurious services are offered through their six lounges known as ‘Galleries’. http://youtube.com/watch?v=vf5zp0ORHK8

There are six lounges within the new British Airways terminal: The Concorde Room, The First class lounge, three Club Lounges and an Arrivals Lounge.

Can everyone access these lounges or are these for frequent fliers only? What services do these have?

Karishma, you have all the info about this kids zone and I can see why ur excited too! I usually travel with my kids so don’t have to worry about leaving them alone. Yet this kid’s zone does help at airports.
