Facing a Technical Problem:
1. My computer Motherboard, is about four years old, and I want to upgrade my HDD, with a Hitachi SATA 160 GB 7200 rpm (about Rs.2,300). But there is no SATA provision in my MOBO (Intel 845 GBV). Some vendors say I can get a IDE Card, and overcome this disability of my MOBO. Others say, the computer will not recognise the new SATA HDD. Presently, I have 2 x 40 GB 7200 HDD PATA.
2. The MOBO has only two DIMMS slot for two sticks of RAM. Presently, my configuration is 2 x 256 Hynix 184 Pin DDR1 200/266 SD RAM Dual Line Memory Module and the Processor is an Intel processor Pentium 4 2 GHz with an FSB of 400MHz, 512 KB - L2 Cache.
This desktop MOBO is designed to take upto 2 GB of RAM but according to the manual, this has not been validated.
So, while upgrading, should I upgrade with two sticks of 512 DDR1 RAM or get done with 1GB x 2 184 pin sticks? (all other specs remaining same)[Considering that DDR1 is fast becoming obsolete and DDR 2 is the present market leader]
Corsair is presently offering DDR 1 184 pin in both 512 & 1 GB varities in their Value Select Memory Series, but costs a bomb.
I have upgraded my mouse to Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 (wireless), and the KeyBoard to Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 (wired), both performing flawlessly.
Can anybody give me suggestions ? TIA.
Regards.

Memory - your motherboard can only run DDR1. Do not buy DDR2. It is a bit risky to try 2GB. 1GB is good enough for most people. Buy two of those Corsair 512MB memory modules
the motherboard has only ATA - you cannot do anything about it unless you buy an adapter card. Not worth it.
