It seems that IPL ticket sales have been poor, a couple of weeks ago SRK was worried that only a few hunderd tickets were sold @ the counter, then James sutherland (CAB) had indicated that a lot of tickets to games had been given away and Hyd game had only about a third of stadium full, now jonathan agnew (on BBC inside sport) says that in one of the games played @ delhi, ~ 5000 tickets were sold and rest 20000 tickets were given away, all this makes me wonder whether IPL is merely hype or the real deal? anyway bcci has enough financial clout to give away complimentary tickets yet sustain for a couple of IPL seasons. IPL not selling?

IPL franchises are releasing reserve players in an effort to cut costs (food and accomodation?) first it was Mohali and now Kolkata. Interestingly both these franchises are owned by bollywood stars (Preity Zinta & SRK) and are unhapy with the returns on their investement. It was also reported that these reserve players received shoddy treatement from the owners/coaches and the star players too, they were put in separate (cheap) hotels, were not allowed to participate in practice & gym sessions nor interact with the senior players. Ranadeb Bose, Cheteswara Puajara, Lahiri & Yshwant singh were among the players that were sent home.

Are all your reports from rivals- ZEE News???
They are being released to play domestic cricket. Some of these players were playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy ODI tournament. Which is perfect...The players do get paid for playing domestic cricket by BCCI...so it is wise to release them to perform & possibly earn a place in the Indian side or maybe be next time round these players could be the front runners in the auctions.

yeah right, stop being IPL's snake-oil salesman, according to you nothing could go wrong with IPL, when those players were released they were just told that the team does not need their services, there was no mention of Vijay Hazare Trophy ODI, wasn't that tournament already played back in April?

Nope..it ended on May 8 th or 10th. Some of the current IPL players were also playing Vijay Hazare trophy alongside.
Would you personally keep those players in the dug-out..knowing that they arent gonna opportuniy this season..& continue to pay them or would you let those players play some cricket elsewhere??? Common sense says you let those cricketers play cricket elsewhere.
Yeah... i look at any new venture positively instead of being all pessimist about it right from the start. Yes, there might be a few negatives initially...but those can be corrected/rectified. The fact is that Test cricket has been losing audience... (domestic cricket was micuh worser...people hardly care to go & watch)...so it was obvious that cricket needed to opt for something new..& T20 is a good innovation. ...Makes cricket competitive amongst other top sports too in the world. I would ratehr see Cricket succeed as a sport worldwide than seeing NFL becoming a world sport..afterall, cricket has been one of my favorite sport & pastime. Wouldnt I promote something which my original country is popular for.

check your facts, Vijay Hazare Trophy - final Played at Andhra Cricket Association-Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on 10 April 2008 (50-over match)
It's one thing to think positive and another to extend blind support, criticizing will only serve them good in the long run. Test cricket has been losing audience every where but in India & Aus. I'm not sure how much interest this IPL has garnered in the countries like Eng & WI where cricket is losing it's ground.
If they're not going to let the reserve players practice/work out what's the point of hiring them? In NFL, practice squad gets to participate in the practices, use team facilities and get the necessary exposure.

well, gayrukh khan fired his players two days ago. clearly, he wanted to save money on their expenses. but i think he treated his players better than that zinta bai who insulted her players by asking them to live in cheaper hotels. i have not read any reports of gayrukh kha doing it.
coming back to muchocricket's original question, i have read conflicting reports and a few of them stated IPL as a huge success. a few of them call it as a not-so-huge-success. personally, i have zero interest in watching these IPL games.

majority seems to agree that IPL is here to stay, but are not able to sell tickets, have reduced ticket prices to attract fans, if franchises can't make profits or players salaries eat into their profits then it wll become a different ball game.
BCCI has made it's millions by "selling" franchises. It's the owners who will end up as bag holders.
IPL's 20-20 event is turning out to be like last year's world cup in the Caribbean. The greedy BCCI has scheduled too many matches and as a result, players are unable to sustain their quality of play and spectators also seem to be gradually losing interest.
ulti seedhi bak bak karte ho aur kehte ho sense of humor!! we all know that uppili saar is 92 years old but it doesn't give yo any right to remind him of his age in every other post.
