Dhoni Speaks

We can say that we didn't have experienced spinners. I was a bit disappointed with the bowling but we should have scored more runs. Chawla has done well and he would learn from these game. I am happy with his bowling.

well, was this to undermine sehwag's efforts? i read yesterday that not all is well between dhoni and sehwag after he was dropped in a game against aus in aus.

as long as both are venting their anger instead on the opposition & scoring runs... may this dispute continue further.

:)

I thought 308 was a great score and should have been defended. I saw Chawla, he had no answer to Younis Khan's sweep shot. Chawla lost the plot, after his Yousuf's wicket, he should have attacked Misbah. Sehwag bowled much better, than either Pathan or Chawla the two specialists..He had both the batsmen in trouble and beat them many times. Raina's fielding was surprsingly bad..couple of close catches weren't taken...I am very concerned with the Indian spin department though.. they didn't come to play today and Pakistan can read Chawla like the back of their hands...I think we are in the same boat as Aussies.. spinless :)

When you have two of your key spinners missing..Kumble (has been a long time in ODIs) & Harbhajan..you are bound to have these initial problems..after all replacing a Kumble or a Harbhajan isnt an easy task..... we need to give these young lads some time...to realise that their roles are very crucial..& that they need to grow out of the shadow of being the second  spinner (or optional spinner) after Kumble & Harbhajan.

Jatayu posted Re:Dhoni Speaks on 2 mnths ago
I know Kumble is not playing ODI anymore and Bhajji is on the decline..I am looking at the team without those guys and we still need to win. Chawla has flattered to deceive..Guy gives the ball a good rip, but doesn't think. He need to make adjustements quickly, he wasn't doing that. he needs to create doubts in the batsman and he wasn't doing that. His lone wicket of Yusuf was a gift, as the batsman played a bad shot to an overpitched delivery.  The other spinner( Y pathan )  is no typical Indian spinner, these kinds of spinners are dime a dozen and are not going to make an impact on PAK or SL, who will eat out of their hands...Face it guys there is no spin talent in India.. there is no more a young 19 year old who grabs 5+ and makes batsmen think..thats sad for Indian spin department.. ( Powar maybe..the guy is good..but not a regular in the team )

Pragyan Ojha did good job against BD, may be they should try to rotate him and chawla.
Jatayu posted Re:Dhoni Speaks on 2 mnths ago
Sure. and what about another kid who did well for Delhi in IPL? The most important thing for a spinner is that he should not be afraid of bowling to a guy like Younis Khan..I could see fear in Chawla's eyes as he was twirling the ball before running into bowl to Khan..thats not a good sign. Fear is indeed the key!

> but we should have scored more runs

Yep, Dhoni and/or Rohit could have batted a bit faster. Dhoni's strike rate is hovering around 80 since he's appointed captain.

Dhoni role in the team as changed, he is no more the dasher, he is more of a finisher now. Yes dhoni and rohit could have upped the ante a bit today, but rohit fell the minute he got into the groove. To dhoni's point wickets at vital intervals did hamper. Yuvi is fast turning out to be a dissapointment. We need more then a entertaining cameos from him.

Indians bowlers (specially pace bowlers)  didnt do great in this tournament..yet... Dhoni must be refering to this stats which show that Chawla happens to be the best from the Indian side at this stage of the tournament.....

Thats what happens when you follow statistics blindly. Now remove the 4 for 23 that chawla took against hong kong where does it leave him ?

I am not  saying the other bowlers are better than him, but i thought ohja bowled better as a spinner when compared to chawla. Even today shewag turned the ball more than chawla...now what does that say about our premium spinner ? It is time to get mishra  also in the forray and light some fire under chawlas ass.

ROFLLLLLL ... this is interesting... you dont remove key performances to prove a bowler/batsman is bad.... It is like saying...if you dont count the number of times a Muralitharan has taken 4 or more wickets in a tournamanet, then he is an ordinary bowler..... ROFLLLLL

Thankfully Dhoni is a smart, intelligent captain..& he stands by his premier bowler..knowing very well that there are others in the bowling lineup who are to blamed more than a Piyush Chawla.

But yes...Chawla could have done better & used this platform to cement his position into the Indian side. Afterall..there are 3 spinners in the top 5 bowlers in this Asia Cup. Mendis being the topmost with 11 wickets.... much more than a Muralitharan...

Isn't this the same going bruaahha about pakisthan  undefeated  for 11 or so continous ODI's ? Did that show their true potential ?

Look at the statistic dude, he got a four for against HK and his total tally stands at 6(or is it 7 ?)  All i am saying is i feel ohja  bowled better. Just because this guy is named the premium spinner, doesnt mean we can never question his bowling  abilities.

Also, clearly in todays match and the rest of the cup, our bowlers as a collective unit have let us down. I am not saying start the blame game, but at the same time, hold these bolwers to a standard of performance. Whats wrong with that ?

Recycled Soul posted Re:Dhoni Speaks on 2 mnths ago

You missed the sarcasm when I replied to Gupte  on why Dhoni defended Chawla..... for Dhoni , Chawla happens to look much betetr then the rest of the bowling lineup.... which is why i posted the stats...

Are u missing the lines where I said that Chawla could have done better... after all spinners have done good in this Asia cup...
But it was hilarious to hear u say..that remove that one key performance & the bowler is ordinary...... same can go for Ojha.. remove his 2 wickets & he doesnt count at all....
