Well I think most of the Desi men do want their wife to be one of the conservative types in front of the society , but may be once behind the curtain they want the wife to be one who is libral.
To put it bluntly, they want a coy bharatiya nari in public and a whore in bed. But that's true of any man, desi or not.
I know this is a very old thread but is there any definition of "liberal" and "conservative" as applicable to desis in the US? Do those definitions differ by gender?
What would one slot a woman in her late 30s who shows off her bod in all kinds of teenagerish clothes, but regrets having daughters instead of sons?

Yup, it's called hypocritical behavior. That type of mentality is similar to that of middle-eastern guys, who want their wives, sisters and daugters to wear burkha all the time, but they wouldn't have any qualms about visiting strip bars and visiting prostitutes. Yeah, they are very conservative and pious....LOL..

I don't understand the point of this question. Conservative desi men like conservative women and liberal men like liberal women. The catch is the definitions -- you could be liberal, but in actuality are more conservative than you'd like to believe. It depends on perspective.

Well, I think it depends on how you're assessing the desi man. If you're comparing him to American men, yes, definitely conservative but that's b/c the Indian culture is more conservative than American.
And, I think it depends on the topic - some may be liberal in some areas,but then conservative in others.

I wish I could ask the goddamn part of it, but I know I will cringe at the answer.
it's common knowledge that 'pretty' and 'programmer' don't belong in the same sentence. If you say you're a programmer, guys are going to perceive you differently. Next time, just make something up. Don't tell them you're a coder. Tell them that you're in finance, business, publishing, media etc....

BTW, I am currently everything for my projects. Involved right from taking the business requirements, through the business analysis, through the technical design, through petty programming and testing, and then support. I set up my own timeline and track myself against it. No layer between me and the end users. I CC my manager in the emails as an afterthought.

Do you work for a small-to-medium sized company? That's a lot of stuff you're doing by yourself. And no, Application Developer isn't going to pretty you up. The damage has been done. Only booze can help you now. Don't drink it, just provide it.
Multiply that by 4, as am handling 4 projects, albeit in different stages.
I prefer the small-to-medium setup. Job security too. Make friends. I get lost in a corporate environment. Worked once in such a compnay in NJ, hated every day of it. Left it at the first opportunity.
