Hinduism in Kerala is under attack again by the three organized isms namely Communism, Evangelism and Gulfism. Highly unorganized in content and individualistic in practice, the days of the most secular and free religion in the world is very much numbered in Kerala, especially in its pure form. What might survive in Kerala by the year 2050 AD will be fragments of Hinduism which are in the process of getting organized against the onslaught by others.
Religious conversion is still in full swing in parts of Kerala and the social dynamics imposed by Gulf money has been taking its toll in the vastly secular society of Kerala Hindus. Days of caste atrocities in a bygone era followed by reformers one after another had culminated in a weak religious setup with a repentant leadership class and without any form of defense. And with the coming of the most cunning and phony ism in 1950s’, almost half the number of Hindu born Keralites have lapsed into euphoria generated by Marx’s opium of the masses.
The current controversies regarding fake-Swamis generated by the predominantly anti-Hindu media (9 out of 10 channels and 22 out of 25 print media) is a good warning for the hapless Hindus of Kerala who are now destined to become a minority in their God’s Own country. Like the Tamil Brahmins they can now migrate en masse’ to nearby states or organize themselves into a strong minority group within Kerala. In any case, future looks bleak for the once dominant Hindu community of Kerala.
