I am not surprised.

"CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat said, ''We will do our best to ensure the government falls on the floor of the House on July 22.'' However, talking to UNI, Mr Karat said the day preceding the floor test would be crucial as horse trading would intensify to save the government. He recalled how former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao was able to cobble together a majority overnight. In this context, CPI general secretary A B Bardhan claimed that the rate per MP is said to be Rs 25 crore. ''Now, after withdrawal of support the government is indulging in last ditch efforts to attain the majority mark of 272,'' he said. The UPA government is trying even to get convicted MPs, lodged in different prisons, to vote for the government, he alleged."

I am not surprised.  BARDHAN should know.  Because all MPs / MLAs irrespective of their political allegiance, are commodities for sale.  They can be bought, mortgaged and owned by the Monied Class in India.  I am one of the priveleged few of the Aam Janata, who is privy to the shenanigans of the politicians in Tamilnadu. If you scratch their skins only money runs their system -augumented by the blood sucked from the gullible public.  ADMK, DMK, PMK CPI, CPI(M) et al.

I am still not surprised.  All the Political Parties in India are not conducting Politics, but running a Randi Bazaar

Small parties looking for best price

Refusing to pledge support to the UPA so easily in the confidence vote on July 22, smaller groups are playing hard to get in the hope of extracting a good bargain from the government.

Parties like the JMM, JD(S) and National Conference (NC) are playing their cards close to their chest, saying they will be taking decisions closer to the confidence vote. The JMM, a constituent of the UPA having five MPs, continued to maintain suspense over its strategy, reserving the decision to be taken at its parliamentary party meeting on July 19. Similarly, the JD(S) too has put off a decision with former prime minister HD Devegowda to take the call on July 18.

The JMM chief Sibu Soren is understood to have asked for his berth in the cabinet back in lieu of his support. The JD(S), meanwhile, has attacked the Congress as well as the BJP for their attitude towards his party in Karnataka.

On the other hand, the core group of the two-member NC, which met in Srinagar, authorised party president Omar Abdullah to take a decision on the confidence vote. Ahead of the meeting, Abdullah said all options were open to them.

In Chandigarh, Akali Dal which has eight MPs, however, scotched all speculation about the party toeing a soft line in view of the Prime Minister's Sikh origin, saying it would vote against the government. SAD supremo and Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal said his party has a clear-cut policy against the Congress and it has decided not to support the government. ''Our party does not not believe in horse-trading. SAD MPs will vote along with the NDA during the confidence vote,'' he said dismissing speculation that the MPs might abstain.''Our MPs will not run away from the battlefield,'' he said.
