Issue Based Movies

Hi all,
This is to ask those numerous people out there that does movies like Parzenia and Black Friday really convey any message to people. We watch such movies, comment on them, pity people who were the victims and hate the ones who carry out these religious massacres. But do we learn anything from these movies? We all know the message these kind of movies try to bring out. But do pledge that next time we will not let it happen? I think if we don't stop killing and hating eachother on the basis of religion and caste, what's the point in making these kind of movies and what is the use of watching such movies when we continue to fight amongst ourselves!

During 1970's & 1980's there was a trend which prompted the viewers to react towards the message.  It was a strong medium those days.  The movies of Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Rwitick Ghatak, Govind Nihalani, Shyam Benegal, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and John Abraham had opened the doors of good thinking and an insight to gruelling problems like poverty, strained relationships and communal differences.  People got motivated from those movies those days.  That phase is over and now the commercial aspect of the cinema got more prominence. Cinema has purely become a medium of entertainment and there is no place for wisdom and creative intelligence.  People see the movies and forget once they reach home. No impact whatsoever in their minds as far as the message it circulates or the sensibility one should have to come out of the hell sort of a situation which was depicted in the movie. It's a dangerous situation in a democratic set up.

A huge percentage of people all over the world have turned Hypocrites.. when NEWS cannot affect them & bring about a change in most of them...how do you expect Reality based movies to make any difference. While people want to keep themselves updated on the latest developments all over the world & might also want to know truths behind every incident..but they arent really gathering the information to get involved & make any difference to the society or give anything back. Unfortunately, people would rather live in a fictional world than face reality. Because reality demands your time, your attention, your participation, your presence to make a difference... & that is something which most people would better like to stay away from because they are more involved with themselves & their own personal conquests.

Coming to movies.... Movies are just a creative expression of the director, the writer & the people behind the movies. It is just the directors/producers/actors freedom of expression & it need to be respected & accepted. It is an ART form... what people really need to see & appreciate first is the ART..the effort behind it & the appreciation of director, actors, music & all the technical people behind the movie.. Unfortunately Indians today are poor in appreciating ART & also poor in rejecting nonsense cinema.

People reject reality based movies because it  questions their principles, their religious & social beliefs (Water, Matrubhoomi, Dharm, Garam Hawa) , their morality, their humanity/human values (Parzania, Dev , Amu).  Which is why fictional masala movies are making bigger business than reality based movies.. because it doesnt question & demand any of your attention for real life issues.

Coming to the examples of Parzania, Black Friday... well, Parzania did make an impact. It rattled  Modi & his genocide, ghetto regime.. ..."Chor ke dadi mein tinka" response did come from Genocide Modi..he banned the movie..fearing his image would get tarnished & people will know the truth. Thats not the first time that ART & freedom of expression has taken a Beating in Gujurat..the same happened with MF Hussein & the ART insitute's works which were damaged & ransacked by Modi goons.
So it is not true that it doesnt make an impact or leave an impression on the people..specially the people who are shown as the culprits in the movie.

There have been rare positives too.... A few IIM (or was it IIT students) students did start a Political party after they watched Mani Ratnam's YUVA. Munnabhai MBBS revived the impact & the power of Gandhism & how truth, non-violence stands tall.

ghosh,
i agree with you .mostly these movies are made to capitalize on the real happenings ..both these movies  were done badly ..by the way ...i didnt take a single lesson from them...
and yes i  they do nothing to stop the events from reoccurring   ..that would be asking too much of them  now ,  wouldn;t it  ?
it is only show biz    ..friend

jaijui... there certainly is a point in making such movies.. learning or not learning is besides the point.

if this is the case, then there is no point in writing/talking/demonstrating blah blah . movies come much later.. books have been around for centuries.
