We've all been watching him conjure exotic dishes in a simple manner. He has made a mark of his own by promoting Indian cuisine not just internationally but also in India. He's been dominating the small screen for more than 15 years (forget about Baa or Tulsi from Kyunki...).
It's amazing to note here that although we all face competition somewhere or the other, he has been consistently guarding his position from either lack of competition or incompetent competition (good one, nai?)
So here's what I've been wondering- Is there nobody who can challenge the position so long held by Chef Kapoor? If not, then what could be the reason behind this?
If you are looking at people with Indian Origins..then Madhur Jaffrey was one of the pioneers in promoting Indian cuisine world over...specially UK..where Chicken Tikka, Tandoori dishes, Biryani, etc is part of British Cuisine now. Madhur Jaffrey also happens to be theatre & movie personlity..her most famous role in Hindi cinema...as Rishi Kapoor's grandmother in the Ramesh Sippy Starrer- Saagar.
But in India, Sanjeev Kapoor deserves all credit & aplause for taking Indian cooking & recipes to a new level & set a high standard. His approach is very simple, he talks continiously (like rachel Ray does), alwaya smiling & cheerful, throws in a few PJs.. he has a varied range of recipes from all parts of India, plus he also started promoting diet, nutrition conscious recipes (something which Tarla Dalal also tried to do..but she was a poorer version of Sanjeev Kapoor..plus her co-host Himanshu was pathetic). Credit to Sanjeev Kapoor's show goes to his show directors, editors, cameraman for providing the technical expertise..plus keeping Sanjeev's look very normal...(no chef attire, etc). Most of his shows curently are re-runs.
Sanjeev Kapoor surely is the pioneer when in terms to creating a new markete for all aspiring chefs back in India..& how a chef can turn his recipes & his experience into an enterprise.

But Sanjeev Kapoor's products under brand name Khazana (the readymade gravies ,etc which are now available in USA) some of those gravies taste awful... i tried a few of them... its probably has to do with their packing, storing temperatures... most Indian ready to eat packed gravies also have lot of in it..which probably ruins the gravy when stored in incorrect temperature & conditions. Not tried his pickles..but his gravies sure sucked. He needs to get them all off the shelf if doesnt want to ruin his reputation & think of better ways to pack that gravy in those sealed pouches.
Are you trying to say that Sanjeev Kapoor is a better version of Madhur Jaffrey?
I was wondering that no Indian TV show to my knowledge has lasted for so long as Khana Khazana; so what is it that other cooks lacked that Sanjeev Kapoor captured- be it Tarla Dalal, Rajesh Sethi, Cook na kaho, or any of those regional Cookery show hosts.
