Anyone having problems with this brand? I know last year the 20 lb white jasmine rice (Laxmi brand) was pulled off the shelves and were not available for quite some time. last week I bought a 10 lb bag of brown basmati rice (laxmi again), but when cooked not only did it not smell like basmati, it had a strong pesticide smell as soon as you opened the lid. Just tasting a couple of grains left my lips numb.Laxmi brand rice

I don't know about Laxmi brand.. but I got the one with the elephant on it before and my rice was moving!! there were white maggots or something -- omg! i was horrified and traumatized and returned it!
Started buying small quantities of basmati from Whole Foods. Or else, just smaller bags in general. I think the key is to go to a store with high turnover of inventory.

Return it back to the store..& save a few samples to be sent to some food drug adminstration or a some testing lab within USA. You could probably be saving the lives of many desis who might consume this pesticide flavored rice. Dont let the desi stores or desi manufacturers supply crap to you & play with your emotions & health.
I did. When I told the store owner he did not want to believe me. said this shipment was from NY, not from houston. He would have believed if it were from Houston.
