I am quite new to US. Can someone give me general information about age of schooling for kids.
I have a 2 year old. Any website to check about school district information in new jersey.
first and foremost ur child will start pre-k at4yrs..so register when he is 3yrs at your zoned school..and do look for gifted programs in your area..and teach ur kid to read and write as early as possible..it helps..
Most public schools start with Kindergarten. Schools start in Sept. The kid should be 5 by oct 31 (or Dec 31 or Spet 30) of that year, depending on your school district. Very few school districts start with pre-K programs, which starts at age 4. You will need to check out with your district.
You can start earlier be sending them to a day care, where there is no age restriction. They are usually expensive, even if part time.
If you are at home, then I would suggest to check out the local library programs designed for toddlers. They are totally free.
There was a time, when I had this web site bookmarked which listed all possible schools in an area, along with reviews. I guess I will be needing it again in a couple of months. Google for it, I am sure you will find it.
Ok.. in US they would like kids to be kids till they are 5.
Public schools will admit kids into KG (starting Sept) after they COMPLETE 5 yrs by Dec 31 orevious year (This date changes with states - Usually it is dec 31 on the east coast, June1, July1, Aug 1 in the midwest and sept 1 in Cali I think). No fees or entrance exam or donation to go to Public schools. BTW, public schools ARE good.
Private schools may relax the age rules JUST a little. They will gladly take them in pre-KG at 4 yrs (cut off dates are flexible). fees around $10,000 per year.
There are other day care cum schools that take 2 or 3 yr olds... Plenty such day cares - check desis in your area or Yellow pages under Schools. La Petit, Kindercare, etc are some examples.
My suggestion put the kid in a day care at age 3 for 1/2 day so that it will learn social skills.
