Impedimenta posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
i love pavakkai myself, the bitterness:-) u having that with what?
Tiana posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
Assuming pavakkai is bitter gourd- I like the bitter gourd pickles- after all their bitterness is gone.

Bingo...

That is one of my all time favorites... especially the ones made with the white one.

Also, onion pickle, green pepper, green chilli, tomato pickle, are great.... mago is nice but seasonal... but somehow I dont like Lemon pickles much.
Tiana posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
Not a fan of onion and tomato, but green chilis- YES! I even made some garlic pickles but no one liked them.
Turmeric shoots also make good pickles..

Lemon- made some, no one ate.So these days I add a little sugar to it, grind as a chutney and that's working fine..

Got any tried-and-tested green chili pickle recipe where the stuff doesn't turn to crap over time? I mean..some pickles 'age' nicely and get better over time...but some pickles get all grungy and ugh over time. If you know what I mean.

thanks, Bittu

I'll unleash my seksual energy on you after I get a few good recipes.

Later, I have to unleash my eye-batting power on my unsuspecting DH for a quick lunch date- leaving- bye-bye :-)
*I know what you mean about the crappy pickles- hate them!*

I suspect it is the Miracle whitening cream from Hong Kong that "promises" incredible results.

I don't know yet. It's pouring cats and dogs outside. So I'm sitting in my office staring at the sheets of rain bouncing off a neighbouring skyscraper and unhappily visualizing all those nice things that you people are happily scarfing down and cruelly describing in technicolor glory, totally unmindful of less fortunate and extremely hungry fellow humans.
carvaka posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
This is when you need either a subterranean passage linking all downtown buildings (like Toronto has), or a delivery service that will pick your favorite food up from the restaurant and bring it to your office and an employer that will gladly pick up the tab.
Merlot Daruwala posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
>> an employer that will gladly pick up the tab.

LOL. Spoken like a true management consultant. Have you had any worktime meal at all that you've paid for out of your own pocket (and that was not reimbursed by a client / employer)??
carvaka posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
Only during my pre-MBA career :).

Impedimenta posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
err? order in. even better, get someone from ur trio to fedex you some lunch. u will also get a bonus love note with the words UNKIL hand written on it. he.

Merlot Daruwala posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago

He..he..In his current state of mind, Seva Unkil is more likely to send me a scratch-and-sniff card with NYDiva's body odor, just to prove a point. Carvaka is a better bet but if I take him up on a lunch offer now, he'll hit me up for an Obama campaign donation every month.

So in balance, I'll continue to watch those sheets of rain bounce off the face of the building for now. And all you happily-scarfing people, pls continue with your delicious sounding meals. Never mind me.

Lean cuisine.. (yawn)
Impedimenta posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
CB, which one? tell me some good veg lean cuisine options please.
Currer Bell posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
actually it's "smart ones" black bean/cheese quesedillas. Note that there are 2 in the box so it's 2 servings.

carvaka posted Re:vot's fur lunch? on 3 mnths ago
A sandwich from the best sandwich place I have ever been to. Swiss triangle, roasted garlic and cumin spread, jalapeno havarti cheese, smoked chicken, caramelized onions, roasted sweet peppers. Eating it with mango-orange jiuce.
Currer Bell posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
That's what I liked about CA - the variety and the freshness of their foods, especially veg'n options!

  Propagandhi122 posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
oh man. what I wouldnt give for that sandwich...I miss their black bread.
carvaka posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
I don't know what magic they do, but their sandwiches are always good. I guess it's the spread. Excellent spreads. Have to try their salads one of these days.
  Propagandhi122 posted Re:vot on 3 mnths ago
it's a legend in canada. one thing I hate abt texas is the lack of food I like when eating out. all the crap here is mexican this, texican that. like the bbq stuff, but I dont each much of that. san diego, vancouver and montreal were awesome when it came to food.

BittuZing posted Re:vot's fur lunch? on 3 mnths ago
Back in the day on CA visits, I used to be gourmandish on In-and-Out burgers. Wish they'd open up on the east coast...
carvaka posted Re:vot's fur lunch? on 3 mnths ago
I was big on In and Out when I used to live alone. My wife hates eating burgers, so haven't been there in a while. But that's a good reminder... have to go there this weekend!
BittuZing posted Re:vot's fur lunch? on 3 mnths ago
Yep, those burgers are probably packed with 800 calories but you gotta do it once or twice a month. I remember skipping paid company lunches to grab In-and-Out during work trips to Anaheim/Glendale area.

YUM. I see kobe steak on a grill, in my weekend plans.

Do you miss chennai food and servants cooking for you 3 times a day?

Impedimenta posted Re: (Imp) vot on 3 mnths ago
LOL, no. i was up till *here* with the cooks. every household in india RUNS around the help's schedule. if he/she fails to show up, people go into a panic mode. it was ODD for me to depend on cooks and drivers and i was unable to drive the car myself[i tried with disastrous results]
I do miss chennai though, entirely for different reasons.
Amerasian posted Re: (Imp) vot on 3 mnths ago

"if he/she fails to show up, people go into a panic mode."
That's a shame. You know people(relatives) are so used to having servants there when they come here, they make it difficult for us to be good hosts. They expect 3 hot meals per day. Of course, my wife is the one who does all the cooking. The last time we had relatives, she was exhausted from cooking because she didn't get any help. She had to cook food in huge quantities because they are such big eaters. From now on, I will limit the number of days relatives can stay to 3 days.

Currer Bell posted Re: (Imp) vot on 3 mnths ago

See, if your wife is the only one cooking, they won't see it.

I've had enough guests who understand immediately that we're on our own to clean/cook/etc. and they usually step up to help or take down their requests. But, when you have houseguests from India, a lot of your day circles around cooking/planning of meals.

Amerasian posted Re: (CB) vot on 3 mnths ago
Usually, the relatives do help with cooking & cleaning. This particular family we had recently was a lazy one, and IMO a bit lacking in conscience. They (couple+2 teenagers) were not even willing to do small stuff like dropping bread into the toaster, take their plates to the sink...etc. Basically, they were expecting the same service they get from servants in India.
Currer Bell posted Re: (CB) vot on 3 mnths ago
Yeah, that's a tough one. Anyway, they probably won't return -- I'm sure they weren't satisfied enough with the service ;-)
