deterioration of sulekha at hands of one person with various handles. what is sulekha going to do abt this. do they give us the ability to block someoen we dont like out of our screen like blogs? pls do otherwise witness the current state of your coffeehouse here

When you post a new discussion, just select the text and use the html formatting in the menu.
If you know some html, then remove the tick from the "rich text editor" box and use it to link to materials.
I am not sure abt this reply box.

below is my unmodified response to a poster in a thread entitled "the worst forums ever." it contains a brief assessment of your new forum design. i tried emailing it to you as you suggested, but found no easy way to do so from the forum. i hope you'll pay some attention to it, and that it's useful to you.

why don't you all be more specific, and point at particular features of the new forums that you dislike? remember to email that info to sulekha.
i myself don't like the forums. reasons: 1) i can't see, in one screen, a large number of the latest posts in reverse-chronological order; 2) the posts are not hierarchically structured, i.e., i can't see all the posts were made in response to each post; 3) the order in which sulekha displays the posts is not clear to me; is there any chronology at all, and if so, is the chronolgy based on the time-stamp of the latest post in a thread, or that of the initial post of the thread?
i admit that all the features and strengths of the new design may not be evident to me, and i may have misconstrued some. however, shouldn't sulekha have predicted that, and introduced the new design to us with descriptions of its salient, new features?
here's the most jarring feature of any service design: unnecessary change, especially of the visual kind. after a user's senses have been trained to work with the strengths and weaknesses of one design, it's inefficient and annoying to work with a new one; the initial annoyance and inefficiency can be justified if the new design brings overwhelming benefits in comparison to the old one. the s-shaped "learning curves" that industrial engineers and business efficiency experts talk of are expressions of the advantages of stable processes, the opposite of unnecessary change.
i'm about to mail a copy of this post to sulekha.

First up, thank you for fixing the posting problem that was crippling Groups. Posts now go through lightning fast.
The major pain points with the new Forums are:
1. The entire thread's contents are loaded into one page. It is next to impossible to go through long threads.
2. Lack of formatting features (bold, underline, etc.).
3. Posts you have already read do not appear in a different color. This is likely because you are forcing the links to always appear in the same color. The browser displaying them in different colors is a very useful feature for many of us.
4. It is difficult to identify which post was written in response to which. The tree view works, but it is not the default. In long threads, which is where you need this functionality, the tree view is useless because most of the page is taken up by the boxes around posts.
5. The "posting reply -- please wait" disabling of the page is unnecessary and very irritating. When you get an Internal Server error in posting, that page is stuck disabled.
6. The original post does not apply in the reply box. This functionality is badly needed.
One bug: the Latest Posts view shows the title of the first post in the thread always, but the Home view shows the title of the post correctly.
Regards.
Rajaputhran.
PS: You may have to start from the beginning till such time I am able to post the post. Now I am only able to send replies, and not able to initiate a new post for starting a discussion.
I click on it and the screen vanishes with my message and I get a stinging slap on my face: "ERROR MESSAGE VAIDYANATHAN PUSHPAGIRI ... SORRY PLEASE CLICK TO POST."
Now my query is where is the "click to Post tab"? I am not able to see it in my monitor screen.
Any idea where is it lurking or hiding ?
For sending replies, I have no problems. After composing the message, once I click on "reply", it instructs me to "Post this comment".
Regards.
Rajaputhran.
BTW VC's suggestion worked like a charm. You should see more of my posts hencforth.

I agree. It is important to allow formatting, links and images in posts.
> I have kissed good-bye to all my personal quirks in writing, ...
It is a pity... I hope they restore the formatting and image functionality soon, because I used to enjoy some of the photos you posted.
> BTW VC's suggestion worked like a charm. You should see more of my posts hencforth.
Good to hear!
How come something that was working has been rendered so unintuitive and
contrived, and some functionality of the past altogether gone.
Sulekha Team: please consider giving us
1. default treeview expanded option with latest post first and oldest post last.
2. ability to post clickable links/images.
3. ability to edit/add to subject line of an existing thread.
4. ALL the suggestions Carvaka has listed. Those are exactly mine too
and several others.
Regards.
5. Need Edit/Delete option on an already posted (own) message.
This will improve overall quality too
- main reason : can correct typos instead of posting a new one to correct
some post and lose the thread continuity. Option to delete will give the
ability to monitor/moderate own posts. This will keep the site clean and
easily moderated.
