(Didn't read the link, or went past propa describing some Radhika's backpockets - yeah woke me up, along with my 3:00 pm diet coke)

I saw in one Prabhu Deva movie where this lady cop was torturing him. Many times purely by sitting on him.

Here is a sample (quite (very) long) of the serial "Arasi" - under discussion.

*For those who are interested....Dual roles (mother-DSP-and daughter-in grey saree) are portrayed by Radhika.

dear maria,

*  sorry I didnt share your enthu for radhika's acting and instead focussed on her over ample backside that resembles two large watermelons being smuggled in her backpockets.

IMO, the laws and police infrastructure for enforcing Dowry Prohibition are well-intentioned but don't seem to have checks and balances to prevent misuse. A vindictive wife can make life miserable for the husband and his family simply by alleging harassment. There's just no downside to doing so.

My take on policewoman beating up men in police stations - The one who wields power, also wields the authority to abuse it. Correct - we should not generalise. All policewomen do not misuse power. But all have the power to abuse it. Whether or not they do, depends on their sense of ethics.
JBF posted Re:Women cops in Tamil Nadu torture men on 3 mnths ago
based on your narration i think it would be safe to deduce that you have not been educated in India for sure.
Ethics and that too with the cops???..sounds strange..may good for only those bollywood films..

or it could mean that I am saying that most police (man or woman) liberally abuse power.
JBF posted Re:Women cops in Tamil Nadu torture men on 3 mnths ago
actually women police are more rowdy than man police.just analyze and you will agree with me..
no girl/woman from a good family  would work as a cop..thinking it is not a decent profession..

will you work as a cop woman?wearing those stale uniforms and those dirty public bathrooms?..
.|Sublime|. posted Re:Women cops in Tamil Nadu torture men on 3 mnths ago
Think Kiran Bedi. I would not mind at all to be like her.

And why in God's great earth would I want to wear dirty public bathrooms?!!

some women do get justice. Rowdy men are bullied into silent acceptance  proper behaviour towards the wife and made to behave properly. Our men have improved a lot because of police women. Theirs is a thankless job...remember.//
Maria S posted Re:Women cops in Tamil Nadu torture men on 3 mnths ago

Mr. Boji,

I think as Ms. Scribbly says...probably policewomen don't get the recognition they deserve (and there will always be a few rogue cops)...but, most are professional.

*Have you watched the serial "Arasi" (on SunTV)...I am so impressed by Radhika's role (and the production).

.|Sublime|. posted Re:Women cops in Tamil Nadu torture men (Maria) on 3 mnths ago

It is a good trend that they potray strong women in these TV serials. Radhika, especially, has always shown herself to be the strong one, the one with broad all powerful shoulders. After all, Radaan, her production company produces these shows. If she does not take the most powerful role, who else will.

In any case, why would you want to use a TV serial to buttress your point. They tend to be the most unrealistic versions of life. If this were not true, all husbands would be slapping their wives every chance they get, all MILs and SILs would be plotting new ways to shower misery on their DILs and everyone would be dressed impeccably well at all times of the day, including the middle of the night.

Hello Sublime,

Nice to read your comments.

*When it comes to raising awareness and relaying societal messages...I think every means of mass communication should be used...

*As you know...serials are watched by the masses and especially women are perhaps among the loyal fans...and it is a good way to reach them...You are right about most serials have "similiar themes"..especially in India...the DIL/MIL inflicting misery on each other seems to be popular (I think some women vicariously live through them!)....I watch only two tamil serials..."Arasi" and "Kolangal"...while both do have the other routine stufff....they include some unusual strong women characters/storylines...which find interesting..

*I am not sure if you watch US serials...they also have the family squabbles + plenty of steamy affairs and lots of bed hopping (don't know why Indian serials have them yet!)...having said that..they also address societal issues/problems...from HIV/AIDS to gun violence to child abuse etc...

Like Sulekha...serials are also an escape...*imo....while mostly it is time pass...kind of being motivated (to develop self-esteem)...and learn one or two things..can't hurt!*It is just one way to educate folks.

Whether it be American TV or Indian TV, it is a case of same old same old. A formula that works is beaten to death.

Having said all that, I lack the patience to sit through a soap opera style TV serial.
I am more of the Seinfeld, Two and a Half Men kinds. Whatever it is you want to say, get it over with in those 20 or so minutes. And yes, it's nice to relax with a laugh as opposed to sitting through a misery fest.

I used to complain about my in-laws incessant watching of Soaps. They would watch soaps from 12:30pm to 4pm! When our kids (2 & 4 at that time) were in the same room, they didn't make any effort to send them to a different room. I didn't want my kids to watch soaps.

__________

Anything which is "habitual" or addictive is not a good thing! And certainly soaps and serials can be habit-forming...(actually that is why bad serials are a good thing...one can't watch them more than once or twice a week!)

*While it is not good for children...don't think mainstream US serials have any lasting psychological damage! At a maximum they are exposed to PG13 or PG stuff! For older people....please atleast let them look at all the beautiful/handsome soap stars and  vicariously live through all the steamy affairs and get caught up with "other people's life problems" than getting bored and lonely....fighting with the real life children...and grandchildren.

*However...the internet, violent movies/videogames, peer pressure to do drugs/drink alchohol...are all far more dangerous to children...Internet chatting and getting emotionally involved etc...can affect people on a more deeper level.

there's is something to be said about macho types making eyes like bharatanatyam dancers, raising their manly eyebrows, twirling their curly moustaches and patting their thighs... loud. i only remember mudhal mariyadhai of his movies.

"there's is something to be said about macho types making eyes like bharatanatyam dancers,..."

I know of parents who are giving their daughter & son bharatanatyam dance lessons!!!!
Their son is in middle-school. I am not against boys learning dancing. There are male ballet dancers. Of course, the dances you see on "Dancing with Stars" need both men and women. My problem with guys performing bharatanatyam is this: their dresses are similar to that of ladies! They consist of silk fabric worn certain way. And the eye makeup is certainly not suited for guys. I think this pic demonstrates my point well.

Maria S posted Re:{Anetra+Maria} Women cops in Tamil Nadu torture men on 3 mnths ago

Amerasian,

Come on!

Bharathanatyam is a classical performing artform...and what's wrong if boys/men want to learn and perform too?!  Obviously, it is "like acting"...and the make-up/attire should be what it should be...for that particular performance!

*I wonder why it is an issue....isn't "image" all about perceptions of masculinity and femininity?  Kamalahasan was a classical dancer...so were many....it is not like a man has to "dress on a date"- in Bharathanatyam attires!

*I know a person who was a circus clown (part time)...and married a lady doctor in the US...he was not dressed like a clown when he was with her....he was very handsome and dressed very well(very debonair)... and no one can tell he was a part-time clown!

I don't have any problem men learning any type of dance as long as they don't have feminine moves.
I have never seen guys do BN! Why do the guys have to wear silk outfit too? My concern for the middle-school boy is this: if his class/school mates see him in that outfit, they will make fun out of him.

Is there anything some middle-school boys don't tease even bully other boys about?

It may be about height, weight, mannerisms, race, religion, ethnicity....to studying habits (he is a nerd, he is a geek) to he walks this way-does not have a girlfriend (he is already gay!)...it goes on and on...

my problem is more with the exhibition of manliness. Twisting moustaches and slapping their thighs is  all probably natural to the well muscled male, but making such gestures towards a woman reeks of... how does one put it, as though they're making a point abt their 'night-hood'.  I've seen it with Shivaji but Kamal's  irritates me to the point of no return. I suppose it is exhibition of voluptuousness in a male .. :( .. a different kind of male exposure.

aside look at Richard Marx in his early days, Bon Jovi they all look like gays. With age they've attained graciousness in presence and dignity(only in looks i mean). I like them better as they've gotten older. I couldnt tolerate Richard Marx's hair style ..

As for rock stars like Bon Jovi, they are strange creatures.
You didn't answer my question about BN outfits. Why can't guys different kind of outfits? The silk fabric isn't suitable for guys.

Oh..anyone who analyzes a legend like Sivaji...has to look at the entire lifetime of work...the incredible voice/diction...the non-verbal communication etc...No matter how one feels, he was the Master- of his craft....I am waiting for another actor who can speak Tamil as well as he could and make it engaging/almost overwhelming!

*Obviously...it is all a matter of taste and "what moves us"...some people like "understated" acting/ actors (which I  rarely find appealing or interesting)..while others like more expressive/emphatic portrayals.

He had probably stopped acting when i started watching, prabhu was in then , i liked karthik a lot . I did not want to watch black and white movies for some reason. i like charming friendly boy next door types to macho men, that explains my fascination for karthik, venkatesh, abhishek as opposed to macho men like Kamal, Nagarjuna or anyone of those sporting a mouche and acting manly.

I never enjoyed goudamani, senthil.. comedy but nagesh was good. Maybe i'm a stickler with regards to pleasant faces and don't delve much into deep acting.
