Should there be a special day for children?

started by Seva 2 mnths ago

There is  mothers' day, fathers' day, spouses' (valentine) day, God's day (Diwali, Christmas, Id, Hanukkah,  and so on)  - shouldn't there be a children's day also?

u-oh did you really forget 14 November...... celebrated as children's day ( atleast in my INDIA :)!

Seva posted Re:Should there be a special day for children? on 2 mnths ago

14th Nov. basically is Nehru's  (unkil according to Merlot)  birthday, and Chacha ji (Nehru) wanted to celebrate it in India as children's day.

There  should be international Children's day, perhaps on 2nd Sunday in July (right after Mothers’ day (May) and Fathers’ day (June).

Bill Clinton declared Nov 16th as childrens day.  then dubya bush came and messed it up.

What was significant about Nov. 16 as Children day, according to Bill Clinton?

i was thinking of that...if there is father day mother day...why is there no child day.

Too bad we only have 365 days. I think there are at least 100 'special' days already. Fathers, Mothers, Lovers, Gods, Fools (Atheists?), Turkeys, Ghosts, Labor, Nation's..

India has the special sister/brother's and children's also.

Apart from Greeting cards & flower stalls who really needs so many special days?

Good point. To me, everyday is 'children's day'. So, it doesn't make any sense to designate a day as 'children's day'.

LOL...@'Ghosts day'

Yup, Hallmark co. would love to have another special day.

>>> Have a special day for children even if you consider everyday as children's day.

I personally won't mind Children day (for kids everywhere) and Teachers day (to honor scientists, philosophers etc.)

I propose the following:

Unkils' Day
to celebrate um...maturity and the er..intellect that it brings.
CH Day - Everyone spends all day on CH to celebrate the glorious desi tradition of timepass; oh wait we already do this...

Why discrimination?

Vote for Auntie's day  That day all the aunties of Sulekha can say anything they want.

Dr. Lodha, Smita and Dharma,

Thanks for the comments.

We should have specific days assigned for the (international) Children day and the (scientists/inventers.....) Teachers day. Perhaps the second Sunday in July should be called the Children day to honor and remember children all over the world and the second Sunday in August the Teachers day to honor all philosophers, thinkers, scientists, inventers, teachers from the past. This way in 4 months (May - August), there can be Mothers day, Fathers day, Children day, and Teachers day.

- Seva

HI! Dr. Rakshak Mal Lodha
There is a children's day in India.
India's First and Late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's birthday is celebrated as Children's Day.
It is also called as BAL DIN>
He was known as Nehruchacha for children.

Regards.

There should also be a special day dedicated to great inventers and scientists from the past - Einstein, Newton, Edison Banting, Best et al.

There is an international 'Children's Day.'   And in Sweden they have a name day, like a 2nd birthday in the year.
Dr. Rakshak Mal Lodha posted Re:Should there be a special day for children? on 2 mnths ago
We celebrate Children's day in n India on November 14th every year
smitasamm posted Re:Should there be a special day for children? on 2 mnths ago
