No Point you posting such informative ? Posts [an email from a young lady who wanted to know why marriage is considered a means for salvation] if we are not able to send our riposte. Even though I sent an elaboration of what the Sastras say about marriage as well as two quotes from other sources Sulekha seems to have gobbled it up. You just get the listing of my post sans the content. I give below the quotes and their links.
Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitaha
"Dharma is the first of four personal aims to be realized or striven for during the course of one's lifetime known as chaturvidha phala purushaartha i.e. Dharma, artha, kaama and moksha. Artha implies wealth, prosperity, reputation or fame, etc. Kama implies sensory and aesthetic fulfillment. Moksha is liberation and salvation. So the Hindu says that it is one's obligation to practice Artha and Kaama with Dharma as the foundation so that the primary object of reaching salvation and a release from cycles of birth may be obtained. Clearly happiness, prosperity, and the good life are considered to be legitimate human experiences as long as they are within the framework of Dharma. If moksha is our goal, the ancient Hindus said, then by all means participate fully in the affairs of society, raise a family, enjoy the good life, serve the community ... all within the framework known as Dharma.
REMEMBER THE SAYING:
Dharmo rakshati rakshitah
MAY DHARMA PROTECT YOU!
AND MAY YOU GUARD DHARMA

Sri Vatsa Soma Deva Sarma in his Tamil book 40 Samskaras, defines the karma of marriage in these words and explains why a Hindu Brahmin should enter the Grihasthasrama, before contemplating his Moksha or Mukthi.
At the time of his birth a Brahmin is born with three debts one each towards his Rishis, Devas and Pitrs respectively. He can expiate his debt towards his Rishi, through the Upanayanam ceremony, and Veda Adhyayanam.
The debts towards the Devas can be discharged by performing Yagnyas.
But the expiation of the debts towards his Pitrs can be done only by marrying a Kanya from a Good family, who has all the Satvic gunas and who is fertile and capable of begetting a son. A satputran. Because only through a son can the family lineage be maintained and he would do the sradh ceremonies for his forefathers.
