"Megan Coulter, a Mascoutah, Ill., eighth-grader, served two after-school detentions last week. Her offense? Hugging two friends and therefore violating the Mascoutah Middle School's ban on public displays of affection. "

"Megan Coulter's case began in earnest at a sports event a couple of weeks ago. Her parents say her southern Illinois school's vice principal asked her and a male friend to stop hugging. Then, on Nov. 2, Megan stood near a bus in the school's parking lot and put her arm around a male friend's shoulder. The vice principal, who did not return calls seeking comment, immediately issued a detention order. Minutes later, as Megan walked across the school's front lawn, a female friend gave her a hug. The vice principal issued the second detention order."

"A 7-year-old boy in Duncanville gets in trouble for telling a classmate to wear a darker shirt because he can see her bra strap. The school suspends him and labels the incident as sexual harassment.

In Keller ISD, school officials catch an eighth-grade girl holding hands with a friend and tell her to stop.

"From bans on hugging to labeling comments as sexual harassment, schools are cracking down on anything that smacks of sex. Critics say teachers and administrators have become too fearful of lawsuits and have stopped letting kids be kids. "

how can a seven year old boy knwo anything about a 'bra' ..and hwo it shud be worn...i second that it iz sexual harrassment..a seven yr old is still a first or second grader..Lord!

Whatever happened to something called common sense. Does 7 year old even understand the charge "sexual harrassment". Two successive detention orders in few minutes ?
Currer Bell posted Re:No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago
I think there's something else that's not being mentioned in the article. Was this kid on the teacher's radar for other behaviorial issues and then this was the only 'charge' they could put him on? Was he just saying this to a girl or was he touching her or poking her?

1. "Does 7 year old even understand the charge" -- b'burger

should be "does a seven-year-old..."

2. "harassment," not "harrassment."

3. "Two successive detention orders in few minutes ?" -- b'burger

should be "...in a few minutes."

dude, don't u think there is a problem with a 7 year old talking this way? i mean, i understand that he may not even understand what sexual harrassment means but i am speechless.

I am shocked beyond words. maybe i am naive but where do 7 year old girls wear a bra??? my daughter is 5 and i want to stop her from growing:-)

It's a problem. Also, it was none of his business. So what if the bra strap is seen--not a big deal for today's standards. The boy just needed to be reprimanded, not suspended.

"I am shocked beyond words. maybe i am naive but where do 7 year old girls wear a bra??? my daughter is 5 and i want to stop her from growing:-)"

Yup, even for american standards, that's amazing. You ought to stop feeding your girl solid food. Just feed her soup and a multi-vitamin pill.(j/k) Seriously though, it all depends upon the genes and eating habits.
These days, the middle-school kids look like HS kids, and the HS kids look like adults. One of my friend's son is 16 yrs. old,  6'2" and 270 lbs! He is an offensive lineman on his HS football team. We attended a function (singing program) at a local HS. Two of the gals were dressed up strapless dresses. I thought they were teachers!! I said to my wife, "these teachers don't have any modesty (cleavage display); they are not being good examples to the students".  When we saw them on the stage with other HS gals singing, we were shocked. Most of the girls looked like adults.

"..i know you loved seeing thos two babes flashing out their mangos."
LOL.... NOT really. These girls were FAT (5'4" - 5'6", about 170 lbs). Their breasts were not like mangos, more like small pumpkins. That's why I thought they were teachers. Think about that woman on the left in the picture of 3 women you posted.

>> dude, don't u think there is a problem with a 7 year old talking this way?

No there isn't! For god's sake the kid is 7 year old. With all the TV exposure it is very easy for a 7 year old to know that bra is an undergarment. Get over it. If anything what 7 year old said shows a sign of certain maturity.

Where exactly do you think is the problem other than in your head ?:)

>> i mean, i understand that he may not even understand what sexual harrassment means but i am speechless.

WTH are you speechless. Grow up, will you. Kids are exposed to lot more than when you were growing up. Of course you know that kids can be smarter than you think. You think smartness should be restricted to only certain areas ?

"Sexual harrassment" - While in today's day and age it is possible for 7 or 8 year olds to indulge in behaviour that can be charged as such, I don't think it is age-appropriate to even charge anyone under 12 for it. In this particular case it is not even close. On top of it this sort of thing "criminalizes" kids' behaviours.

>> I am shocked beyond words. maybe i am naive but where do 7 year old girls wear a bra?

I have the same question. Does bra-industry hav a new clientle - the kids ??

don't you watch tv or read soemthing which you should read.our media is flooded with bra's and panties.children are bound to get influenced by such uncontrolled advertisements.why are you shocked?.if a 7 year old girl can wear a bra,why can't a 7 year old notice it?i mean are you against women wearing bra's or something?

I would guess in the same place where a 17 yr old wears.

If a 7 yr old girl wears a bra, then a 7 yr old boy has the RIGHT to warn her about the Bra straps... besides, I thought the boy was good natured and was only trying to help protect the modesty...  At 17, his behavior would have been different and that would not have been a harassment.
Job less fella posted Re:No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago

The point to note is that 7 year old girls have started wearing a bra.... Which can come as a shock to some morons.
Amerasian posted Re:No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago
Yeah, that's surprising. I suspect it's a training bra. Even then, usually girls don't start wearing them until 9 or 10.
The 7-year old boy was being stupid. The teacher normally takes of such issues. Bra strap visibility is nothing compared to gals flaunting their breasts and legs. The kid needed a simple verbal reprimand. I don't think hte soolk shoiuld have suspended him.

I recall when I was in my seventh grade I asked a classmate if he was in love with a class girl..  The idiot went straight to the teacher and complained.  I was summoned and berated by all teachers in teh teachers room and made to stand there for 2 days with enquiries by every passing teacher.... pheww... that was a nightmare...(Never told my parents).

The positive side... my class teacher remembered me after many many years... and that girl is a very close friend of mine - even now....consults me on anything that is important in her life....

It will be funny if that 7 yr old boy ends up marrying that 7 yr old girl... imagine that...

If your teachers berated for something like that, then they were being absolutely idiotic. Perhaps, they were lacking in common sense. You should have suggested lobotomy for them. How did they even become teachers?
ratan khatri posted Re: [Uppili} No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago

hmm. "lobotomy" used to be your favourite word. and those font colors. and you always ridiculed desi people for inappropriate usage of "when push comes to shove". the day you use this expression in pink and purple colors, your reincarnation shall be complete.

Amerasian posted Re: [ratan] No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago
Lobotomy: "A cure for insanity used in the Medieval times. They would remove half of the brain leaving the person dead, and the insanity cured."

Any teacher who berates a 12-yr. old boy for something soooooooooooo trivial deserves that type of insult.
ratan khatri posted Re: [ratan] No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago

geez, the teacher only berated him, not beheaded him. your punishment of lobotomy for this teacher is worse than the punishment for 12 year old uppii.

I agree, but what is this boy was coptic christian,..these type of christians believe that it is their duty to spread decency.

So i guess i think the boy did the right thing by clearly notifying the sinner of her sin.Hence in the God's darbar he would be viewed with great honour.

Please explain.
Amerasian posted Re:No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago
Ok, may be stupid was too strong of a word. I would say he was being carefree. The way girl dressed was none of his business. It (strap showing) doesn't matter anyway.
batataburger posted Re:No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago
What planet you live on ? If you can tell someone that they forgot to zip up their zippers what is wrong in a kid telling another that to wear something that doesn't show undergarment?
Uppili posted Re:(CRadhika) No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago
Poor kid must have repeated what his own parents told his elder sister....

Reminds me of a story...(damn.. looks like I AMMMMM getting old).

Told my 3 yr old kid not to write on the walls of the new house we had just moved into...  When we had visitors in the evening and the woman leaned against the wall... my kid ran to her screaming NOT to lean on the wall and make it dirty....

We explained the reason and everyone laughed... .Imagine beating the kid for simply taking our advice to heart and enforcing it on others.
batataburger posted Re: Who is (CRadhika)? No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago
Was she the one leaning against the wall ?
Uppili posted Re: Who is (CRadhika)? No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago
She was the one who was asking for kid stories last week to write a book or a blog.

Amerasian posted Re:No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago
If you tell someone that his/her zipper is open, then you are being helpful. But to tell a girl about her bra strap, that's different. I am sure she knew when she looked at herself in the mirror at home. Also, I am sure her mom and/or dad notice but didn't think it was a big deal. I would have been more appropriate if the teacher said something to her. If another girl said something like, "did you know your bra strap is showing through the blouse.", then it would have been ok.
batataburger posted Re:No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago

Why is it not okay for another boy to say the same?

You are harrassing not just QB, but many other women here. You can continue to be a misogynstic retard, but I am not going to keep quiet about it.

As for your "restituting" or whatever else you meant my mother or my wife, those ladies neither know about nor care for your existence. Finally, I don't know what language you speak, but you are no credit to any language group anywhere in the world.

people like bittu and DUT have been harrassing posters here for donkey's years and i've never seen you or anyone else complain about them. so why the sudden concern about JLF now? i have no special regard for him/her, but i am just curious.
carvaka posted Re: (To Carvaka) No hugging please! on 5 mnths ago
It is a matter of degree, I guess. JLF has a seemingly single-minded agenda here: misogyny and shouting at all the women here. I find what he does a lot more offensive than what Bittu or DUT do -- but that's just me. For instance, I found his posting of photographs and berating the women in those pictures very offensive.
