But, I think you have chance to get away in the court. Explain to the judge that you got stuck at the intersection. If you know for how long... see if you received MORE THAN 1 ticket - after all you must have stayed there for more than a few seconds. If you got more than a few tickets then that will prove you were stuck in the X-section and have an outside chance as most of us have experienced that. Anywya, you were not supposed to be there unless the path ahead was clear. Get ready with an answer for that. Also, see if you can get some witness.

What are the chances of dismissal? on 3 mnths agothat won't fly unless the intersection is really big. secondly, if he wants to contest, a good trick is to call teh court and postpone the hearing. make a family-related excuse. when they reschedule, postpone again. when you finally go to court, there's a 90% likelihood that the cop won't show up..and the ticket will get dismissed.

It's not so much a function of the size of the intersection. If there is no dedicated left turn signal, you have to enter the intersection and yield to oncoming traffic before taking that left turn. And if traffic on that street stops unexpectedly, you are stuck in the intersection until the congestion clears.
I speak from personal experience. There was no photo but the cop who ticketed me didn't turn up either. The clerk magistrate dismissed the ticket.

And if traffic on that street stops unexpectedly, you are stuck in the intersection until the congestion clears.

What are the chances of dismissal? on 3 mnths agoyeah it'll go on your record. insurance rate will go up. your best bet is to go to the court, talk to the prosecutor and have the points reduced. some courts let you pay a higher "court cost" in lieu of dropping the points altogether.

the intersection when the red light was on.

This is no defence. When there is a car in front of you on the other side of the intersection, you don't enter the intersection even if you have the green light. You can enter only if there is room behind the front car and if the light is green. The judge won't help you in this case. Bittu may have the right idea. If the cop doesn't show up, the judge will dismiss the case. However, you have to live with yourself. If I were you, I'll pay the fine.
No! that is not needed.
I know someone who got the jumping-red-light ticket in postal mail in MD with colour picture of car, red-traffic-light and the amount to pay for the violation. No cop involved. Either have a good explanation in court or pay up.
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words :), so paying up more judicious, unless you plead guilty in court and try to reduce points on the driving record, which go on insurance. Yes, and points do go on record for insurance (based on the state), because jumping a red light is treated more dangerous than speeding.
