Has nerit and logic and all good things taught in school lost their values??

No and No.

But why the confusion?

Think of flattery as good 'people skill' and carry it on as an art. Instead of flattery, think of real positive feedback. I am sure you can find good stuff about everyone.

Hence the confusion.

In schools we are taught never to lie, profit, or make people suffer.  How many times have you told someone their new hairstyle/dress/attitude was lousy? (Now don't lie)

There is a 'phrase' for everything. We are also taught, 'If you can't say anything positive, then don't say anything'.

That statement of mine was more a commentary of what I Iearnt in the corporate culture here. But srsly, it does ring true.

On a side note, all my friends, who are still my friends, tell me on my face if my 'hairstyle/dress/attitude was lousy'. Anyone who doesn't (and I realize the lousiness part later), is outta my list.

That is what I call re-training or Practical training following a theoretical education - much like a laboratory experiment not matching the theory.

Did not think life could be this complex - where lies are necessary and good while truth is bad and to be avoided.

By flaterry i mean giving a false impression of goodness to somwone else. I have seen how sub-ordinates always go n flatter their superiors so as to gain promotion. They would do anythin or everythin except workin hard!!

________

Well, it it works...it works....and it is an issue for the people who offer the flattery and those who accept it..and not for others!

*There is also a tendency among non-flatterers/stingy flatterers to say "that other person does not do any work...vs. me who is so hardworking holding up this place together...blah, blah"..they constantly undermine the boss/managment's intelligence/ability to know who works and who does not work...(that is why the role of "rats/spies" are very valuable in the workplace!)

*There is no one who is indispensable in the workplace...degrees/qualifications are dime a dozen!
Everyone likes flattery/it does not hurt.....don't let anyone tell you otherwise...everyone likes to be liked/respected and be around people who are pleasant/appreciative.
The sooner you learn this..the better:)

Buyt is'nt flateery morally unsound?
Even if you dont look at that point i am against it coz i have seen it affectin many organisations... Where sometimes under the influence of flatterers the higher authorty takes decisions which are unjust and wrong just coz they have got the impression!!
And i want to clarify I AM NO MORAL POLICE :)

*What does morality have to do with flattering?

And flattering goes both ways...bosses have to flatter the employees too! (any good boss knows that!) Even the President (of a country/corporation)- I'm sure flatters the people around him/her!

There is always going to be plenty "office politics" in any workplace...flattery is a very, very small part of it.
