To All the Chers in Sulekha.

This is how we read the news as reported in a reliable news paper being printed and published from Chennai.

FREEING THE FETTER: A portion of the wall, which was built across the common path at Uthapuram, was razed on Tuesday.

After talks and a thorough inspection, the administration identified the 150-metre stretch of the 600-metre-long wall that blocked the common pathway and denied Dalits access to areas of common usage.

It was brought down on the instruction of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. A temporary gravel road was laid at the demolished portion to link with the pathway. Authorities have promised to convert it into a cement road.

The wall was built after a caste clash in 1989 on the basis of an agreement among leaders of the two communities. Prior to this, the section was being used as a common entrance to the village by members of all castes.

The Hindu was the first to report on the electrification of the wall on April 17, 2008. Following the publication of the report, the district authorities disconnected power supply to the wall (The Hindu, April 18). [In Tamilnadu, the Hindu is considered to be a Castiest Paper - supporting the forward community]

The Dalits in the village felt happy over the demolition and urged the government to fulfil their other demands.

Caste Hindus vacated their houses and went to the nearby Thalayuthu hill, four kilometres away from Uthapuram, as a mark of protest against the move to demolish the wall. (May 07, 2008)

GREAT DIVIDE: A 600-metre-long wall separates Dalits from caste Hindus at Uthapuram village in Madurai district.

At Uthapuram village near Ezhumalai in Madurai district, caste continues to guide social relations.

There are about 2,000 families of Dalits, who outnumber every other caste, but they still face discrimination.

With a long history of caste animosity against Dalits behind them, caste Hindus of the village have electrified a 600-metre-long wall, which passes through pockets that were meant to be for common use by people of all castes.

The wall is intended to block common entry points, thereby preventing the castes from mingling. It has been there since 1990, but electricity is being passed in the night using iron rods for the last 10 days.

The electrification is meant to prevent the Dalits from breaking into the caste Hindu areas during the night.

The caste Hindus have also thwarted efforts by the Dalits to build a bus shelter. They recently raised the height of a parapet near the bus stop to prevent Dalits from sitting in front of them.

Dalits in Uthapuram village do not visit the teashops owned by caste Hindus. They are not allowed to enter streets dominated by a particular upper caste.

They are denied space in village squares and community halls and access to burial grounds.

Asked about the erection of the wall, a former panchayat president, Sena Vana Oyyanan, said: “We (kudiyanavargal) do not go in for anything. It is the Dalits, their militancy and aggressiveness, which has further widened the gap between castes and increased the frustration.”

Uthapuram village panchayat president Marimuthu (alias) Thonthi, a Dalit, claims even economic advancement has not accorded them social status. During events like temple car festival, Dalits are not allowed to hold the ceremonial ropes. Access to common property resources is also being denied.

India is truly a Democratic Country!!!

Rajaputhran.

To Non-Tamilians here on CH:

Pillais, Thevars and Nadars are not Brahmins.

I titled the post as "Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village" in a humorous vein to point out how ridiculous the DK/DMK parties are when they blame all the problesm on Tamil Brahmins.

we get it. you want to protect the good name of tamil brahmins (mostly madras iyers, but will grudgingly extend the courtesy to the rest).

The brahmins in that village are a disgrace to the brahmin community who are supposedly the learned ones.... infact they should be teaching the values of humanity...but instead these bunch of brahmins are a National shame.

I hope they start punishing such folks on grounds of inhumanity.

Recycled Soul,

Thevars, Pillais and Nadars are not Brahmins.

In many villages of Tamil Nadu, there are hardly any Brahmins. They all got out.

I titled the post "Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village"  in a humorous vein to point out how ridiculous the DK/DMK parties are when they blame all the problesm on Tamil Brahmins.

Recycled Soul posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village (to Recycled Soul) on 2 mnths ago
yeah right... & now they will break it up further into sub caste.. sub-sub caste & put a blame on some small section within the brahmin community... instead of question those criminals & correcting what is wrong within your community..... blame everyone else..

point is...if such inhumane crimes happen then the people committing those crimes should be punished & a message sent across to all others that such nonsense will not be tolerated. Even if Karunanidhi is using this for his political gain..it still doesnt erase the crime that those ba$tards commited against those poor people.

Generally speaking, caste-based atrocities reported in the media are distortions posted by anti-Hindu, minority-loving, commie agents masquerading as journalists.

In the rare event that there is indisputable evidence of such an atrocity happening, then it is clearly the work of isolated, bad individuals and nothing whatsoever to do with Hindu society or the caste system (which fyi, was an excellent idea for division of labor).

jaijui posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
division of labor it was meant to be for ..true ....but  the Brahmins did use it to their advantage ..treated the non Brahmins  shabbily   .no question about that ...  and are still doing  it in the villages    a shame
It is to the credit of our long suffering Indian qualities that a out and out revolution hasn't taken place    like  it did in France for example
Merlot Daruwala posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
I would credit it to the cleverness of the Brahmins who devised this elaborate belief system which led individuals to believe that their lowly status on earth was immutable in the present life but by listening to their social superiors and doing what they were told, they could hope for better things in a next life.

But then, as a well-known anti-Hindu commie agent, my opinions are biased. I'll wait for Mr. Hinduism-is-perfect-and-anyone-who-talks-caste-is-Anti-Hindu, TruthBeTold to come online and enlighten us on this topic.
Uppili posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
In fact, I suspect muslim hand behind all this....;)

They convert the Dalits which angers the Pillais and the Thevars. The muslims know fully that they will retaliate against the Dalits, on whose behalf the Govt. will make some noice. The sissy brahmins - if any left in the village - will get scared of this infighting and decide to go to banglaore, madras, or US to be with their children. Needless to say, they sell their homes to the highest bidder - which are almost always the muslims - to make as much money as possible. The muslims thus increase their numbers quietly in this scuffle.

After all this hoopla dies down in 6 months, the muslims convert a few more dalits.  Of course, the anti-hindu, pro-islamic, anti-India, Pro-Pakisatani, commie traitors of India will bad mouth the sissy Brahmins to deflect the true damage done by the Muslim mischief....

This is the only possible explanation......:))))
Merlot Daruwala posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
Thanks Unkil, for clarifying. All along, I thought it was just some anti-Hindu traitors within the Hindu society who were responsible. But now, the Islami and Pakisatani hand are crystal clear to me.

Let's now wait for a couple more resident experts to jump onboard and connect the dots to establish the Al Qaeda link to this incident.
carvaka posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
You are forgetting the link to the Trilateral Commission, which is eventually behind all of it. This is why I am actively promoting a certain research partnership here.

sara Boji posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
It is irrelevant at this point who invented the caste system centuries ago.

After all what prevented the upper caste Non-Brahmins to treat dalits humanely?

After all the Brahmins in that TN village forced Piilais and Thevars to build that wall.
Merlot Daruwala posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
Exactly. See, it's just a few bad apples - non-Brahmins, just to be clear - who do all these bad, inhumane things and then these anti-Hindu, DKheads come in and start blaming Hinduism, Brahmins, caste system etc.

But despite being a Brahmin yourself, why are you saying that the Brahmins forced the Thevars to build that wall? Are there some bad apples in the Brahmin community too?

sara Boji posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village - corrdction (to Merlot) on 2 mnths ago

====> oops

" After all the Brahmins in that TN village forced Piilais and Thevars to build that wall."

should be

"

Uppili posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
There is no mention of Brahmins. I doubt if any bramin even lived in that village.

The dalit men and Muslim men now have a freehand in choosing "fair complexioned", upper caste women with North Indian ancestry. I think that is the real agenda...

Anyway.. the more interesting news is that blood of menstruating women contain stem cells that can make a heart beat.... - I meant the stem cells...

Eggactly. So I yam thinging that Sara Boji is an anti-Brahmin DK-head who pretends to be a Brahmin but is actually interested only in denigrating Brahmins and Hinduism. See how he titled the thread as "Brahmins oppress Dalits" although the oppressors in question were all non-Brahmins??

jaijui posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
well Im  on truth be told's side ...
are you a Parsi   with a name like Daruwala ..or is it   a  CH walla name ?

Merlot Daruwala posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
>> he failed to solve the real problem.

Problem? What problem? This wall has nothing to do with caste system. Actually there is no caste system in Hindu society.

What is wrong if 800 individuals in a village decide to live within a gated community? Every human being on this earth has the right to create a secure living area for himself or herself. It is a sheer coincidence that entry into this gated community is decided by the vocation chosen by your ancestor several millenia ago but still, there was a good rationale for division of labor and anyone who disagrees with any of the above is an anti-Hindu "scumbage" commie agent. Period.

I agree with everything you said but get this niggling feeling you might be a tad sarcastic. maybe I'm imagining things as usual.

Sara Boji,
The entire theory of caste oppression was fabricated by the Dravida Kazhagam and its illegitimate off-springs over the past seventy five years to to gain political power using the lowest commom denominator to aggregate the electorate in their favour. Having accomplished what they cunningly planned, the vulture is back at its nest procreating in abandon and acquiring all the riches that no man can dream and periodically singing the hosanna of thousands of years of caste oppression to keep the power slipping off their hands. They beat the Hindu icon Ram with chappal, made derisive and vulgar remarks on devotees that frequented the temple while gaining control over the Hundis of major temples in south india. While they cut the sacred thread and tufts of brahmins, they took part religiously in fast-breaking Ramzaan feasts adorning skull cap and flattering the custom as ennobling for their body and soul. A man who headed the family Karunanidhi connected with the marriage of his daughter- whose mother he did not officially marry, was locked up in Madurai central jail for  no fault than not succumbing to Chief minister's whims. The number of murder cases, his son is connected with are many while he attends the swearing-in ceremony betwixt the Governor and the Minister. He declares an asset worth  800 crores officially, but do not ask from where it came from for this great industrialist who all his life  only laboured to keep the caste cauldron boiling. He boosted the Marans who who built an empire so as to dictate terms with Tatas. When did Kanimozhi become a poet to warrant the national honour of becoming a Rajya Sabha member?.What were the antics that Stalin is credited with, when no girl could walk in Chennai without being accosted by his erstwhile gang. Now that he is lined -up to become his father's official successor !. Why did his friend's entire family commit suicide when the Jaya govt. came to power and dug in to Stalin's embezzlement of govt.funds? .What is Karunanidhi's take on national integrity and why did he finance Nalini's sister for producing a movie?.When ever his position and the chair rattles he will come out with the Hindi domination, struggle for Dravidasthan  that is kept in  abeyance and tirade against brahmins for age old oppression. When every thing is going gung-ho for him and his family,it is Soniayaji he worships while letting the village feudals of his clan, massacre the elected presidents of Papparapatti and Keeripatti if not threaten them to resign for the bare fact, they are dalits. The two tumbler system and the seperate grave yards can flourish  along with the Uthamapuram wall if only the followers of Periyar are fed and flattered all their life.No Tamilian will ever dare question these known and stark facts as he knows that he will pay with his life or it is ingrained in his psyche and he adores the Kalaignar for a seat in Engg. or medicine when he is not able to qualify..

DK / DMK is mostly a movement of non Brahmin upper castes who wanted to dislodge the Brahmins who were monopolising academia / government jobs in the British period and achieved their objectives. They generally use the term Backward Castes to encompass everyone.

Dalits get a raw deal even there.

Of late I'm seeing virulent attacks on Mayawati from the DK magazine "viduthalai" because she is giving more seats to the much hated "Brahmins"

sara Boji posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
"Upper caste Hindus (comprising Thevars, Pillais and Nadars) and Dalits have been traditional rivals as the communities compete as share-croppers at government or temple-owned farmlands. The tension is understandable as the ruling party is identified as being anti-Thevar," T.S.S. Mani, a human rights activist who has worked in the area for long, told IANS.

===>
That tells everything.
Merlot Daruwala posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
You keep using this term "upper caste Hindus"...what does that mean? I thought this caste system is an irrelevancy from a long-forgotten ancient past, dragged into modern-day discussions only by anti-Hindu commies?
Vaidyanathan Pushpagiri posted Re:Brahmins oppress Dalits in a TN village on 2 mnths ago
Upper Caste Hindus are Hindus who travel on the Upper Berth of Lalu's Railways without paying the fare. This is not state specific. Would include Kashmir also if there is any railway system there.
