Yes there is discrimination not only of Indian by Indians but evry other race in the world.

Case in point: At my fairly upscale residential complex, HSBC rents several flats for their management employees, Indian and foreign. One family was African, highly educated, very quiet and well behaved. Their two boys aged 12 and 10 would also play cricket and football in the garden along with other kids. Soon they were being teased, called "Hey,Kaalia" and then bullied violently, pushed around, even slapped around a bit, mostly orchestrated by older boys with the smaller ones following their lead. People who saw this used to intervene and tell the boys not to treat the African boys so badly but they would not listen. Their parents were informed but did nothing to control and guide the bullies. Finally one day, in self defence, the older African boy took a swing with his cricket bat and fractured the arm of the worst of the bullies. His Dad came out the next day and abused and threatened the African boy but ladies who sat in the garden every evening stepped in and supported him by explaining that he had been harassed to the point of losing his temper. Finally, the wounded bully's father backed down and dragged him off, "shouting I told you not to have anythng to do with kachara (garbage) types of people". A Jordanian family has two pretty teenage girls ( one going to be 13) who walk their dog in the garden and have to face eve teasing and sexual innuendos. Other girls also face this (mostly from drivers of resident's cars) but they know how to answer back in the local language. So other than racism, the sick idea that any female from 6 to 60 walking around can be targeted for eve teasing is also prevelant.

Everything you mention seems to be par for the course. The sad part is the attitude toward the Africans is not just restricted to kids. The Jordanian girls would have been seen as foreign and easy prey. Hopefully, they will team up with some local friends to defend themselves.

If they had been uneducated and loud, Indians would have kep t quiet and respected them. Rowdiness and bullying are useful tools to keep people from messing with you. Education and wealth makes them jerks and full of arrogance, but they are always afraid of the bullies who have nothing to lose. Indians are brave only till they are challenged.
I wonder where Lakshmi lives. Jordanian, HSBC, Africans all point to Delhi (yeah...theoretically can be anywhere).
Eve teasing is an entirely different matter.
Now I can tell one thing though. Your tamil would be sun and pure brahminical accent that even the Mylaporians may not remember... unless of course you are not one of those "original" Bombay Tamailians...
